Every little helps... Solidarity lids

We have been collecting plastic lids for many months already. Last Monday we were visited by Yolanda García and her son Christian. We had a very interesting chat with her and there were many questions and answers. You all seemed very touched and willing to help. I just want to remind you that as Yolanda said this is a long term project as she needs many tones of plastic to be collected to get a special chair for her son. So, do not forget to keep collecting lids everyday. I am posting on here a picture with information about the different types of lids and plastic that you could collect and bring to the school. There is a link to Christian´s facebook too. Feel free to visit and read the latest news about him.

Be a good Saint Valentine!

Saint Valentine is a widely recognized third-century Roman saint commemorated on February 14 and associated since the High Middle Ages with a tradition of courtly love.
As you know already we are going to celebrate that day in a very special way at Montessori school. Do not forget to bring your letter and the donation to help AECC (Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer). Do not lose this chance to help others and show your love to the world! ;)

Year 9 Trip - Terracotta Army "Guerreros de Xi'an"

We are just back from our trip in central Madrid and the fantastic exhibition at the Fernán Gómez Centro Cultural de la Villa where they have been showing us the history behind one of the most important archaeological discoveries of all time: the Terracotta Army.
Discovered in Xian, this army consists of a set of over 7,000 lifesize terracotta figures of warriors and horses which were buried with the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, in 210-209 B. C. An army that was created to serve him in the afterlife.
Since they were discovered in 1974, these statues have continued to surprise people around the globe due to their sheer size and excellent condition. In the year 1987 UNESCO declared them World Cultural Heritage, and in 2010 the official excavation team, led by the archaeologist Xu Weihong, received the Prince of Asturias Award for Social Sciences.
This exhibition gave us the chance to learn all about the archaeological process and life in imperial China of the period. Like all the other figures that were unearthed, each of the warriors on display is unique: there are young soldiers and old, with varying hairstyles and facial hair, the features of different ethnic groups and clothing and weapons depending on their status and role.
I think it was a good opportunity to learn a little bit more about this country and specially this term as we are studying China in Geography (Year 9).
Here you have some pictures to remember our visit.

PSHE

I have been told that year 8 students were involved in some interesting and informative lessons about bullying and cyber bullying the last term. I have seen great posters and displays all around the school that you have made. I think it is a great idea and they could be interesting to other students in year 7 or 9 that they did not go through out the same topic as you.

I am writing a little bit about it on here today for a reason.... It seems that we all know the theory about bullying and we do not support it at all.... but from time to time some people just forget things and make inapropiate comments to others that could hurt. Before being a teacher I was a student like you (yes even if you can not believe it, teachers were young and gorgeous at some point in their lives) :P .... and I never understood that wrong attitude in people, and I promised to myself that in the future I was going to be firm and consistent against injustice, specially towards young people and minorities.

Well, with these videos I just want to refresh your mind about something that we have learnt in the lessons of PSHE and maybe these stories will help us to understand and remember the importance of the word RESPECT and say no to BULLYING! Do not just create nice posters with wise words...Let's put into action what we believe in everyday! And remember, if you have ever been bullied... Let your teachers and parents know what is going on!
Less theory, more practice! STOP BULLIES!
